Job Summary  

Provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient and accurate service. Assist in the delivery of primary and urgent health care. Perform a variety of other duties related to patients’ assessment, treatment, reevaluation and discharge. Interact with contact persons from clients as well as staff from other departments.

Job Duties/Responsibilities



  • Provide compassionate and exceptional customer service by greeting patients in a friendly, positive, helpful and respectful manner

  • Maintain a welcoming environment upon patient check-in and registration

  • Must be patient with customers who don’t understand the intake process and must demonstrate calmness towards anxious, agitated or angry customers

  • Must have a genuine passion for helping patients

  • Successfully manage patient volume without ever compromising quality

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments

  • Take patient histories and vital signs

  • Prepare patient for examination and treatment

  • Apply splints and dressings, perform rapid testing such as strep, mono, flu, UA, EKG, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization

  • Assist physicians/NPs/PAs in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals

  • Perform phlebotomy and distributive laboratory paperwork

  • Dispense medication as directed

  • Instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable

  • Perform selected nursing and administrative duties as directed

  • Handle telephone calls from clients, patients, prospective patients, physicians, pharmacies, as well as other staff

  • Provide solutions to patient concerns within the scope of position



  • Ensure California Department of Public Health (CDPH) compliance of site lab and exam rooms which may include but is not limited to logbook maintenance, checking for expired medications and supplies, proper handling of biohazard material, etc.

  • Provide accurate and timely documentation to other staff, insurance carriers and companies

  • Correspondence by phone, in person, or in writing with regard to patient care, i.e. insurance carriers, physicians, non-clinic physicians

  • Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians’ review, etc.

  • Log and mark charges on EMR per billing office protocols

  • Document patient files, records, forms and other information

  • Assist with scheduling of test and treatments

  • Screen phone calls for referral to physician/NPs/PAs

  • Maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment, including performing and documenting daily controls and calibrations of laboratory equipment

  • Complete opening and closing procedures

  • Be sure work area appears neat, well stocked and organized



  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours which may include evenings and weekends to meet customer requirements

  • Ability to work and cross-train with X-ray technician on clinical tasks

  • Maintain disposable and non-disposable supplies, i.e. wound care supplies, laundry, etc.

  • Provide general information of department policies and procedures

  • Attend required meetings, re-certifications and participate in committees as requested

  • Help produce and maintain patient education instruction hand-outs

  • Maintain clean, professional working/treatment area

  • Accept and assume responsibility for special projects as they arise

  • All other duties as assigned





  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required

  • Graduate from accredited medical assistant program

  • Minimum 4-6 months of experience as MA, preferable in clinic setting

  • Must be certified by one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCMA), Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute, Inc. (MMCI)



  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and written

  • Must be fluent in Cantonese and/or Mandarin; knowledge of medical terminology in Cantonese/Mandarin a plus



  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  • Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with telephone calls, patients and families, clients, co-workers and clinical staff

  • Knowledge of PC function, Microsoft Office including EHRs/EMRs, and basic office equipment

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow

  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in all facets of the position

  • Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  • Responsible for personal actions, positive action upon feedback from others

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
