Job Summary  

 

Provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient and accurate service. Assess, plan and provide patient care. Examine and treat general as well as urgent care patients to ensure proper injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Prescribe and administer medication, perform routine vaccinations and provide advice regarding personal health. Request necessary tests and follow-up visits and refers patients to specialists as necessary. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures set forth by Board of Directors, government agencies as well as occupational health clients.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

 

PATIENT CARE

  • Provide compassionate and exceptional customer service by greeting patients in a friendly, positive, helpful and respectful manner

  • Maintain a welcoming environment upon patient check-in and registration

  • Must be patient with customers and must demonstrate calmness towards anxious, agitated or angry customers

  • Must have a genuine passion for helping patients

  • Successfully manage patient volume without ever compromising quality

  • Assess, plan and treat patient needs within an urgent care setting and triage patients to differentiate between immediate and less urgent care

  • Review patient file/record, including allergies, medications and immunization status

  • Effectively manage private, pre-employment and workers comp patients

  • Ensure proper diagnosis, handling and recovery

  • Order labs, tests, injections, referrals and prescribe medications

  • Perform digital blocks and regional anesthesia. Perform minor outpatient surgical procedures such as wound closure and management, incision and drainage and needle biopsy

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as aspirations and injection of joints, bursas and cysts. Perform closed reductions of fractures and dislocations. Apply and modify braces, casts, splints and other orthopedic appliances

  • Order, collect and perform appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, such as routine laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, and radiological examinations including arthrogram practices, and procedures set forth by the government, Board of Directors, as well as clients

  • Conduct physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs or eligibility for insurance coverage

  • Consult with other physicians on medical care of patients

  • Take patient histories and vital signs as necessary

  • Communicate patient needs, diagnosis and course of treatment to the patient, company, as well as other clinical staff and instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable

  • Follows up with patient regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases

  • Daily follow up on laboratory tests and X-rays

  • Create an individualized plan of care based on physical, psychosocial and age specific assessments of the patient, as well as patient’s input and history

  • Maintain an adequate patient flow on-site by directing assisting clinical staff

 

CLERICAL

  • Participate in required educational courses and perform CME credits to maintain license

  • Maintain quality assurance of charts and testing

  • Handle telephone calls about services rendered from company accounts, patients, physicians, as well as other staff

  • Provide accurate and timely documentation to CBUC staff, insurance carriers and companies

  • Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians review, etc.

 

OTHER DUTIES

  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours which may include evenings and weekends to meet customer requirements

  • May supervise physician assistants/nurse practitioners to assure compliance of all applicable regulations.  If applicable, instruct and direct the mid-level in the mid-level’s duties, oversee and check the mid-level’s work and provide general direction to the mid-level

  • Delegate work appropriately to other caregivers and insures accuracy of delegated work

  • Serve as a resource person for other clinical staff

  • Help produce and maintain patient education instruction hand-outs

  • Attend client site visits

  • Attend required provider meetings

  • Assist with representing the organization to occupational medicine clients and throughout the community

  • Accept and assume responsibility for special projects as they arise and all other duties assigned

 

Requirements

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited medical school

  • Successful completion of residency program in area of specialty

  • Must be board-certified of board eligible by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Board of Emergency Medicine

  • Must possess a current license to practice medicine in the state of CA and CA DEA license

  • Must possess or be willing to obtain DOT medical examiner certification via online training and pass official examination

  • Must possess a current CPR certification

  • ACLS/PALS certification preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge of advanced medical terminology

  • Knowledge of basic ER, generalist, occupational medicine and family practice procedures

  • Ability to use the necessary equipment such as the nebulizer, EKG machine, etc.

  • Understanding of the concepts of universal precautions, HIPAA and OSHA

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and written

  • Fluent in Cantonese and/or Mandarin a plus, but not required; knowledge of medical terminology in Cantonese/Mandarin a plus, but not required

  • An exceptional communicator, orally and written

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with patients and families, clients, co-workers, clinical staff and physicians

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of PC function, Microsoft Office including EHRs/EMRs, and basic office equipment

  • Utilize EMR and tablet/laptop technology at the bedside

  • Excellent judgement and discretion; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and handle work-related stress is required

  • Work within a team atmosphere to achieve optimal patient care who is equally comfortable working independently

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow

  • Detail oriented while maintaining an extremely positive attitude

  • Recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems

  • Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions

  • Warm, friendly, courteous, professional, outgoing and customer service oriented attitude with excellent patient interaction skills

  • Responsible for personal actions, positive action upon feedback from others

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Supervise/manage clinical staff, including NPs, PAs, MAs and X-ray techs as requested/required

  • Offer to help educate other team members and act as mentor

 

DESIRED LEADERSHIP SKILLS

  • Ability to manage an efficient patient flow urgent care by directing and optimizing clinical staff on hand

  • Must be comfortable with being the sole provider on staff and have a take charge, can do attitude; previous experience in a private practice or running a private practice a plus
