RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST

Job Summary  

 

Provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient and accurate service. Assist in the delivery of primary and urgent health care. Performs radiologic exams, following established procedures for patient care and safety.  Performs all the duties related to proper X-ray image identification, storage and reporting functions. Interact with contact persons from clients as well as staff from other departments.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

 

PATIENT CARE

  • Provide compassionate and exceptional customer service by greeting patients in a friendly, positive, helpful and respectful manner

  • Must be patient with customers and demonstrate calmness towards anxious, agitated or angry customers

  • Must have a genuine passion for helping patients

  • Successfully manage patient volume without ever compromising quality

  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures and take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety

  • Protect patient, self and other staff from radiation hazards by using a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials

  • Perform basic medical assisting duties to ensure good patient flow, such as triaging and rooming patients, taking vital signs, assisting with CLIA waived rapid testing, EKG, splints and sling assistance

 

CLERICAL

  • Ensure equipment is in working order and report equipment malfunctions to physician/NP/PA

  • Perform quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets compliance standards required by California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and departmental policies

  • Log completed radiologic procedures and process related paperwork

  • Maintain examination rooms and stock necessary medical and radiologic supplies

  • Responsible for copying images to a CD for patients, packaging, signing of medical records release forms & logging X-rays

  • Ensure all radiographs achieve a radiographic interpretation by clarifying all discrepancies

 

OTHER DUTIES

  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours which may include evenings and weekends to meet customer requirements

  • Ability to work and cross-train with medical assistant on clinical tasks

  • Provide general information of department policies and procedures

  • Attend required meetings, re-certifications and participate in committees as requested

  • Help produce and maintain patient education instruction hand-outs

  • Maintain clean, professional working/treatment area

  • Accept and assume responsibility for special projects as they arise

  • All other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate’s degree in radiological technology from accredited X-ray technician program

  • CRT license issued by the California Department of Public Health – Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH – RHB)

  • ARRT or equivalent

  • Current with continuing education requirements for the ARRT and CDPH – RHB

  • Minimum 4-6 months of experience as X-ray technician, preferable in clinic setting

  • Up-to-date on annual radiation protection in-service, and provide documentation

  • Up-to-date on annual blood borne pathogen in-service, and provide documentation

  • Up-to-date on injections, and provide documentation, as per OSHA guidelines

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and written

  • Fluent in Cantonese and/or Mandarin a plus, but not required; knowledge of medical terminology in Cantonese/Mandarin a plus, but not required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement

  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology

  • Ability to follow infection control and radiological safety procedures

  • Ability to identify equipment problems and correcting or notifying team leader

  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients and families

  • Knowledge of PC function, Microsoft Office including EHRs/EMRs, and basic office equipment

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow

  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail in all facets of the position

  • Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced work environment while maintaining excellent customer service and staff interactions

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  • Responsible for personal actions, positive action upon feedback from others

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to withstand physical and mental demands to perform tasks normally associated with an X-ray technician such as standing, walking, stooping, bending, squatting, reaching above the shoulders, twisting, turning, kneeling, pushing and pulling 

  • Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients

  • Occasional stress in working with tense and anxious patients
